Rank: Sergeant – Reconnaissance Noncommissioned Officer

Made reconnaissance for gun placement positions, and potential routes for company movement.

Prepared overlays showing enemy and Army gun positions.  Was company communications chief and liaison with infantry units to which the battalion was attached.

Biography

Samuel Mestrezat was 26 years old when he enlisted in the Army in 1942.

Prior to enlisting, he was a practicing lawyer in Miami, Florida having graduated from the University of Florida and the University of Miami with a LLB and JD degrees.

Following his WWII time in the Army, Samuel continued his career as a lawyer in Miami, Florida and later became an agent for the U.S. Customs Department in West Palm Beach, Florida until the time of his passing in 1969.

He was married to Hazel May Neville, they had two children, Franklin Wayne Mestrezat and Sandra Erroll Mestrezat.  Following the early passing of his wife Hazel, he later married Elena Fye.

His experiences in WWII documented by a diary kept. Years later his son-in-law put S. Errolls’ diary into the following book.
