Michael J. Parzych

7/30/1949 — 4/10/2022

RIP

Michael John Parzych of Daytona Beach Shores, FL, formerly of St. Augustine, FL, passed away on April 10, 2022, suddenly after a brief illness.  Mike earned his heavenly wings and has been welcomed into Our Father’s eternal home, now resting peacefully.

Mike is survived by his beloved companion, Peggy Murphy of Daytona Beach Shores FL, brothers Stan (Eva) Parzych, Ray (Sandra) Parzych, Peggy’s children, Chris (Tami) Fitzpatrick of Atlanta GA, and Kelly (Danny) Gandara of Austin TX.

Mike was very active in his church, singing in the church choir.  Mike was a proud Retired Veteran of the United States Air Force.  Recently, Mike was working at St. Augustine Hospital.  Mike had a beautiful singing voice and was well known in many Karaoke establishments.  In addition, Mike loved to cook, and playing golf was close to his heart.

After basic, my brother was stationed at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. He was in communications. I was stationed on Guam. One of the things he was able to do was set up a phone relay from Hawaii to Guam to our home in Sturbridge through Westover. We were able to have a three way conversation a few times until we got cut off by a priority call. It was interesting since there were three time zones to deal with. After Guam I went to Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Omaha. When Mike finished his tour at Hickam he also received orders for SAC and Omaha. We served together for a time though not in the same sections. Over the course of his life, Mike drove long haul 18 wheeler. He would drive cross country to California or Canada on the west coast. Drop off and pick up another load maybe head to Chicago or New York or wherever the schedule took him.

Eventually he settled in Mesa, Arizona and took up driving a tour bus for several years. A job he liked very much. Eventually he wound up back on the east coast this time St. Augustine, Florida. He remained in St. Augustine for several years and at some point migrated south to Daytona Beach. There he met the lady that he would remain with him and by his side for the next twenty years.

He was operated on for colon cancer a few years ago and had also undergone bypass surgery. After he recovered he went on to get his associates degree but I don't recall the area of his study. After fully retiring he continued in a part time basis delivering pharmaceuticals. He did that right up until the time he became ill a couple of weeks ago.

His favorite song was “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”. I do know he loved karaoke and looked forward to attending the weekly session at a local night spot in the Daytona Beach area with his companion by his side.

I knew Mike Peck and Mickey (Mike) Parzych from grade 1 throughout high school.  They gave me some great memories. They were two of the nicest people I knew. After high school I lost touch with them  as our life paths took different routes. But I never lost touch with the memories they gave me. They were the original Mike and Mike. Guys thank you and RIP.

I've been a member of the Patriot Guard Riders for the past 16 years. If you are not familiar with the group we attend, on invitation, the wakes and funerals of servicemen and women, veterans, first responders, etc. we pay our respects with a flag line and other appropriate gestures.

I contacted the central Florida Patriot Guard Riders and received an immediate reply. They provided a flag line consisting of about twelve people. They also did a very nice military style flag ceremony and presentation along with a very nice plaque with Mike's Rank and name on it.
