Michael J. Peck

3/7/1949 — 11/14/2021

RIP

Michael J. Peck, 72, of Glenridge Rd., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14th, in UMass - Harrington, Southbridge, after a brief illness.

He leaves his beloved wife of 47 years, Linda M. (Lariviere) Peck; his two daughters, Stacy L. Derby and her husband Lee of Southbridge and Karie A. Peck and her fiancé Rebecca Gerbert of Southbridge; his sister Diane Penland of Sturbridge; his three brothers, David Peck and his wife Lynn of Sturbridge, Trevor Peck and his wife Wendy of Wales and Glen Peck of Townshend VT; a granddaughter, Cheyenne Anderson and her fiancé Christian Kohler; four great grandchildren, Brooke Kohler, Logan Silverman, Emma Kohler, and Preston Kohler; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother in law, Clay Penland.

Michael was born in Southbridge the son of Rosario A. and Gloria V. (White) Peck.

He graduated from Tantasqua high school and enlisted in the United States Airforce serving honorably during the Vietnam War. Michael worked for 35 years as a machinist for Hyde Tools prior to retiring. He also worked as a bus driver in his retirement for the Town of Sturbridge transporting Tantasqua students to various sports games which he enjoyed cheering on the athletes. Michael loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and watching the birds. His favorite was the humming birds that he enjoyed watching through the windows. He was a family man enjoying day trips to fall festivals, flea markets, day trips to the beach or apple picking with family. Michael loved the fall and the holiday season. He would often be found sitting by a late night campfire sharing time with his family. Michael looked forward to his standing Thursday coffee date with his sister which they never missed.

Mike Peck took square dance lessons with Linda. I met her and my future wife at those lessons.

In the Air Force Mike had been stationed on Okinawa. I went there on a TDY. I think it was the local USO I visited and was about to sign the guest book when I spotted his name. Small world. My wife and I went out to Westover AFB for an air show one year. As we got onto the shuttle bus, that would take us to the display area who should be driving the shuttle but my cousin Mike Peck. As I said earlier, small world. Incidentally my brother came up from Florida for Mike Peck's service in December. Little did we know, three months later my brother would be joining our cousin.

Comments

I knew Mike Peck and Mickey (Mike) Parzych from grade 1 throughout high school.  They gave me some great memories. They were two of the nicest people I knew. After high school I lost touch with them  as our life paths took different routes. But I never lost touch with the memories they gave me. They were the original Mike and Mike. Guys thank you and RIP.
