He had enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Entered the service via Regular Military. Served during the Vietnam War. He began his tour on September 23, 1967. Morey had the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. His military occupation or specialty was Intelligence Assistant. Service number assignment was 1461989. Attached to III Marine Amphibious Force, 1st MAW, VMO 2.
During his service in the Vietnam War, Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Morey experienced a traumatic event which ultimately resulted in loss of life on December 5, 1967. Recorded circumstances attributed to: Died through non-hostile action, air crash on land. Incident location: South Vietnam, Quang Nam province.
Frank Ernest Morey Jr had served his country during the Korean War before he was deployed to Vietnam. He was married to Barbara Morey.
On December 5, 1967 he was one of four men killed when their UH-1E #BU-152434 helicopter crashed into a mountain west of Danang in Vietnam. They had been on a search and recovery operation at the time. They had been the lead aircraft, with a second helicopter behind them also crashing, however with no fatalities.

Frank is honored on the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial in Washington DC. Name inscribed at VVM Wall, Panel 31e, Line 41.
