Edward Peter Larkin, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Edward was born in Pittsfield on Dec. 18, 1924, the son of William P. and Alice (Barry) Larkin. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, Class of 1943. He later attended St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vt.
Edward served his country in the Army as a member of the Military Police Corps during World War II.
He first worked with his father and grandfather in the operation of the former Larkin's Men's Shop for 15 years. He later became a supervisor in the box department at the former Eaton Paper Company, retiring in 1987 with 27 years of service.
A communicant of St. Agnes Church, he was also a member of its Holy Name Society. Edward was also a member of the Irish-American Organization. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Elizabeth P. Sullivan, whom he married on Nov. 11, 1949. They spent 49 years together prior to her death in 1998.
Edward is survived by four sons, Peter J. Larkin, and his wife, Nina, of Westerly, R.I., Barry Larkin of Dalton, James W. Larkin and his wife, Jane, of Washington, and Shaun Larkin of Dalton; two daughters, MaryEllen Palmer of Dalton and Alice E. Everhart and her husband, Chris, of Pittsfield. Edward will be especially missed by his 10 grandchildren, Thomas J. Larkin of Nashville Tenn., Liz Larkin of Georgia, Matthew Larkin, Alice Larkin, Colin Larkin and Sean Larkin, all of Dalton, Lilly Palmer, Ryan Palmer of Dalton, Claire Everhart, and Ian Everhart of Pittsfield, Erick Lampro of Boston, and two great grandchildren, Bella Larkin and Hunter Gallagher.
Edward was also predeceased by two brothers, John W. Larkin and Richard Larkin.
